General Transplant Information
Facts
There are approximately 4000 people in Canada who are waiting for a transplant operation. Canadians fall way behind their counterparts around the world in organ donation, and sadly, many of those who are waiting will not receive their operations, as fewer than 2000 transplants will be carried out in 2006. Now the GOOD news! Nearly 98% of Kidney transplants are successful; 90% of liver transplants; 85% of Heart Transplants and the numbers are getting better all the time.
Eventually however, the answer to this human tragedy is in knowing the causes of major organ failure and preventing them. This means more research into GENETIC health conditions, CYSTIC FIBROSIS, COPD/Congestive Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder, LIVER and KIDNEY disease, and finally HEART disease to name but a few. It is indeed fortunate these are among the conditions currently treatable by organ transplantation

Queen's Pro Bono Project
The OETSG was approached by the Queen's Law department in 2008 to see if we would be interested in providing a topic for a project for some students as a part of their course. We thought this would be a great opportunity to have some research done into the subject of " Organ Transplantation Privacy Rights", with a focus on Canada and our laws.
